~ The 2004 Tobago LifeForce Team ~
Home

The Tobago LifeForce team arrived here on January 15th, 2004. It has been a wonderful time for them as they have seen God move in amazing ways in their own lives and in the lives of the youth of Tobago. Pray for them daily as they continue to minister here and in Trinidad until May 15th. Pray for open doors for ministry, new churches and schools to share at and for thru their ministry for youth to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour and walk in His ways!

Joining the LifeForce team as well is Kerry Whitbread, who is Tim and Michelle's intern from FGBI. He has been assisting LifeForce and preparing things for Tim and family as they have arrived here and now has begun to help Tim as the mission has begun!

Leading the team are Phil and Annette Marchant. They are a great couple who are not new to LifeForce. They both left their jobs in Calgary to take the team to Tobago this year. What a great sacrifice! It has been a slow start for them here developing new relationships as for the last 2 years, Jeremy Switzer, was the leader of the Tobago team. It has taken some time for the pastors and school staff to get to know them; yet, God is using them in amazing ways! Please pray for them as they lead this team.

TEAM MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS:

The team spent the first week or two after arriving getting used the heat, (discovering some beaches!) and learning the area, where to shop and getting settled. They got to work working with an ISCF worker, Teshon. He has helped them get into several schools to do several drama classroom programs - smart choices, drugs, and abstinence and AIDS. At schools, they have been able to present the gospel and see kids saved. Sometimes they have spent whole school days going class to class doing their presentations-particularly at a school called Goodwood. They have seen whole classes come forward for prayer to commit and re-commit their lives to Christ or for encouragement in their walk with God. They have traveled throughout the island wherever there is an opportunity. Also, they have ministered in Primary Schools (elementary grades). They were treated like movie stars there, getting asked for autographs!

On four occasions, they have done drama outreaches downtown Scarborough at the NIB Mall after school when all the kids are hanging out after classes. It has been a great time to meet kids and talk with them.

Jesus Cares Family Cottage has been a special place for the team to minister. Sharing themselves by playing with the kids, reading stories and loving on them has been life changing. The team even went over for a sleepover! The kids loved it and all the attention they got.

The LifeForce team has also participated in an interdenominational youth rally and a tent evangelistic crusade It was great to participate with other groups as they encouraged youth in their pursuit of Christ.

Each of the team has grown personally throughout this mission - being stretched to lead in team devotions and share their testimonies with others.

Much of their in school ministry has been discipleship as they have helped kids walk out their walk. There have been few first time commitments to Christ but many youth needing to hear about God's grace and how to keep committed, living for Him. The team has been a great strength and example to these youth who need to see they have a future in Christ as they determine to live for Him.

TEAM CHALLENGES:

  • Re-connecting with church leaders and school contacts, transportation and difficulties with scheduling due to many cancellations. Please pray for them as they keep on serving here until May 15th.
  • They have a special trip planned to Trinidad for April 1-22nd. Please pray for open doors for ministry and that their daily schedule is filled to capacity with bookings!

Meet the team and hear their hearts! Remember to pray for them! They have sacrificed so much to come and minister here.

    FGBI Intern
    Name: Kerry Whitbread
    Age: 22
    Hails from: Calgary, Alberta
Tobago Impressions: Beautiful scenery, and beautiful people. Not only is the landscape incredible but the people here are so friendly and open to hear what we have to say. Though they have all pretty much heard of Jesus, not many really have heard the gospel. Tobago is a very Christian saturated place (you can daily hear Christian music on the being played on the street corner, cars bare the logo of the cross and phrases such as "Jesus rules" and "Christ is the only way"), yet there are so few strong Christians. It's as though everyone loves the stories of Jesus and what He came to accomplish, but no one wants to lay aside their worldly lifestyle for a life dedicated to Christ.
God Moment: There have been several strong moments that I have experienced the hand of God on my life since I've been here. One such moment is immediately after hearing from home that a good friend of mine was killed in a car accident. God's presence was so evident in my life at that time. He was there to tell me that He has a plan for my life, and that Nikki was alright she was having a great time dancing in His presence. One less sombre moment I experienced was just the other day as I was in the car going somewhere with Tim and Michelle and had what felt like a 'deja-vu', but upon closer thought I realized that it was not a 'deja-vu' but rather something that I had dreamed months before. I knew that God had called me to come down here for this time, but it was amazing just to have that conformation after being here for several months already. There are many more God moments but if I were to write on all of them it would most like be long for anyone at actually want to read.
